Yeast Infection Treatments: 3 Home Remedies for Yeast Infection

Home remedies for yeast infection can be very effective. On the whole they do not suffer from the drawbacks of everyday drug-based treatments that you get over-the-counter, or by prescription from your doctor. And home remedies are much cheaper than drugs.

So everyday, more and more yeast infection victims are using these remedies at home. There are lots of home remedies to choose from, and of course some work better than others. Much depends on how bad the yeast infection is, and its location.

Here are three of the most popular and most effective home remedies for yeast infection being used today...

Home Remedy #1 - Plain Yogurt

Many people swear by this. Plain yogurt contains Lactobacillus Acidophilus, which is a 'friendly' bacteria that fights the yeast fungus. But it must be plain, unsweetened yogurt with no colorings or preservatives.

Eating this everyday will build up the levels of good bacteria in the gut, helping to fight the yeast infection form the inside.

You can also apply directly to the affected area. Gently apply to the outside of the vagina. For the inside just liberally coat a regular tampon and leave in over night. Repeat until the symptoms vanish.

Home Remedy #2 - Fresh Garlic

This is reckoned to be one of the very best home remedies for yeast infection. It has strong antifungal properties and can be eaten or applied directly to the site of the yeast infection.

You can crush a peeled clove of garlic into a rough paste and smear gently over the outer vagina. You can also insert it into the vagina overnight by making a tampon with one peeled clove wrapped in muslin. Repeat until the symptoms disappear.

Home Remedy #3 - Apple Cider Vinegar

Again, this is one that can be used internally and externally. However, it is strong and not to everyone's taste, so dilute it with water and drink daily.

Externally, the best method is to add a cup of it to a warm bath and soak for about 20 to 30 minutes. You can also just douche with a weak solution of apple cider vinegar. To stop itching you could also add a garlic clove to the solution.
